Hand AI a Whole Project — ChatGPT Work and Project-Scale Delegation
Stop asking AI single questions. ChatGPT Work lets you hand AI a whole multi-step project: a brief, files, and 2–4 hours. AI stays on it, produces a finished spreadsheet, deck, report, or small app. You review and ship. This is the future o

The idea
ChatGPT Work is a mode in ChatGPT (alongside Chat and Codex) powered by GPT-5.6 that works on whole projects. You give it a brief: "Build me a competitive analysis spreadsheet, with columns for [X], data from [these PDFs], and a summary sheet." You upload the files. You set a deadline or goal. ChatGPT Work runs on that project for 2–4 hours — scraping data, formatting, analyzing, cross-referencing, building. When it's done, it produces a finished spreadsheet. You review it (usually 5 min of refinement), and you ship it. This is not AI as a question-answering tool. This is AI as a project worker. The difference is massive: instead of you managing 100 small decisions, you make one big decision (the brief) and AI handles the execution.
Who is this for?
Kavya Singh
Product Manager · Bangalore
Kavya spent 3 days building a competitive analysis spreadsheet: data scraping, formatting, summaries, cross-referencing. Tedious, important, time-eating.
She tried ChatGPT Work: uploaded a brief and three competitor PDFs, set a 2-hour goal. ChatGPT Work built the spreadsheet: 12 competitors, 15 columns (price, features, audience, weaknesses), summary sheet with gaps.
She reviewed it in 20 minutes, fixed two column names, and shipped it. 3 days of work in 2 hours + 20 min review.
"I stopped thinking of AI as a question machine. I handed it a project and it just worked. I got my time back."
What you'll get
One project handed to AI
A clear brief, the files it needs, and a goal — ChatGPT Work takes it from there.
2–4 hours of AI work while you focus elsewhere
AI stays on the project, executing the brief. You don't babysit or micro-manage.
A finished deliverable (deck, spreadsheet, report, app)
Not a draft, not "here's the start" — a finished, reviewable output.
Time freed for what only you can do
You hand off the 2–4 hour tasks to AI and use your time for strategy, relationships, decisions.

Do the challenge
1Pick one 2–4 hour project you do regularly
Something that's important but repetitive: a competitive analysis, a data compilation, a report, a proposal template, a content outline. The kind of work that takes hours but doesn't need your genius — just your standards.
💡 Best candidates are projects that have clear inputs (files, data) and clear outputs (a spreadsheet, deck, report). AI is great at structured work.
2Write a crystal-clear brief
"Build me a Q3 win report: list our 10 biggest wins, impact per win, revenue, user numbers, team feedback. Use these [files]. Format as a deck, one win per slide, with a summary slide." The clearer the brief, the better the output.
💡 Help me write a clear ChatGPT Work brief. Project: [what I want built]. Inputs: [files, data, context I'll provide] Output format: [spreadsheet/deck/report/app] Key sections/columns: [what needs to be included] Deadline or scope: [how long it should take, what "done" looks like] Write a 1-paragraph brief that's crystal clear.
3Upload the files and start ChatGPT Work
Open ChatGPT, click Work mode (project mode), paste your brief, upload the files. Set the goal and hit go. ChatGPT Work runs for 2–4 hours, executing, iterating, refining. You don't need to check in.
4Review, refine (if needed), ship
When it's done, review the output — usually takes 5–20 minutes to read through. Fix any column names, tweak formatting if needed. Then ship it. You just turned 2–4 hours of work into 20 minutes of review.
