Your Skills Audit — Pick the One Skill to Build Next Quarter
Most people learn randomly or not at all. A quick skills audit shows the gap between where you are and where you're going — and turns it into ONE skill to deliberately build next quarter.

The idea
A skills audit is a short, honest look at the skills your goal needs versus the skills you have now — and the gap between them. Most people grow their skills by accident: whatever the job happens to demand. The audit makes it deliberate. You list the skills that matter for where you're heading, rate yourself honestly, find the biggest gap that would also help most to close, and commit to building that ONE skill next quarter. One skill, built on purpose over a quarter, beats five half-learned by drifting.
Who is this for?
Meghna Pillai
Senior Analyst · Bengaluru
Meghna was technically strong but kept getting passed over for lead roles, unsure why.
She audited the skills a lead actually needs against her own — and the gap was obvious: stakeholder communication, not more technical depth.
She committed one quarter to it: a course, a 1:1 growth focus, and reps presenting in meetings. Two quarters later she got the lead role she'd been missing.
"You don't plateau from one big gap. You plateau from never naming which gap to close next."

Do the challenge
1List the skills your goal actually needs
Think about the role or level you're heading toward (use your North Star). List the 5–7 skills it genuinely requires — technical and human. Be honest about what that level demands, not just what you already do.
💡 Look at people one level above you, or a job description for the role you want. The skills they're hired/promoted for are your real list — not the ones you happen to enjoy.
2Rate yourself honestly, 1–5
Score where you genuinely stand on each skill today. Honesty is the whole value here — inflating scores just hides the gap. Look for skills that are both important for your goal AND low on your rating.
3Pick the ONE biggest-payoff gap
Not every gap is worth closing. Choose the single skill where improving would move you most toward your goal — usually an important skill you rated low. One, not three.
💡 I'm heading toward this role/goal: [describe]. Here are the skills it needs and my honest 1–5 self-rating on each: [list skill: rating]. Which ONE skill should I build next quarter for the most career payoff? Explain why, and suggest a concrete first step I can take this week.
4Commit to it — and take the first step this week
Decide: "Next quarter I build [skill]." Write it where you'll see it, pick how you'll build it (a course, reps, a mentor, a stretch task), and do the very first action this week. This is your one decision.
